a planner.  I like to plan.  I’m pretty good at it.

When I ran my first half marathon I was on a strict running schedule.  Sure, I strayed from time to time, but I ALWAYS got in my long Sunday run.

My last run was the Presidio 10.  That was about a month ago.  I think I’ve run less than 6 times since then.  Tapering?  Ha!

So let’s back up.  I’m going to tell you about my friend Laura.  She’s a badass.  No really.  She competes in triathlons.  She’s an Ironman.  At the end of a really long swim and a really long bike, she has to run a marathon.  I looked up her pace – 8 min. 29 sec /mile.  I average 10 min/mile if I’m lucky – and that’s with fresh legs.  No swim, no bike.

She was in town for Bay to Breakers.  She was working the expo as a powerbar rep.  Long story short she asked if I wanted to run with her.  She’s cute.  No way I was going to keep up with this little lady.

In the end, I decided it would be fun.  100th anniversary and everything.  I figured I’d be ok.  We could walk and run or something like that.

I met her at the start in my small attempt at a costume.  Did I mention that Bay to Breakers is kind of a funny race?  People dress up, drink, hold parties in the street.  There is a team of salmon that swim “upstream” and groups of runners attach themselves together and run in a single file line – a centipede.

And then we ran.  7.45+ miles.  Laura was kind enough to run {slowly} with me.  Did I mention that my 10 min/mile pace slows even more if I talk?  Since I hadn’t seen Laura since college, we had a lot to catch up on.  So we ran slow (perfect pace for me).

We saw all sorts of interesting sights.  It started off by tortillas!  I think we both got hit by a tortilla and the starting line smelled a lot like tortillas. A strange scent.  Apparently it’s just a method to pass time as people wait to start the race.

We saw a lot of costumes and lots of people without costumes at all…..but I thought that might not be appropriate for folks that view this blog while at work 🙂  All 50+ and none too attractive (in my opinion).

Laura was kind enough to snap a picture of me running…..not attractive….my fault.  I can’t look serious or cute while running.

It was suppose to be cold and rainy so I had all sorts of clothes on.  Tank top, long sleeve shirt, jacket, leggings.  Ended up being sunny, so I had all sorts of stuff tied around my waist.

We finished and got nice medals.  Then we had a delicious brunch.

Thanks for running with me, Laura!
