SEO (search engine optimization) reasons, I titled this post “Grey and Orange {with a hint of Peacock} Baby Shower.”  If I wasn’t concerned about SEO, I would have titled it, “Most Awesomest Baby Shower in the History of Baby Showers.”  But I don’t think people are searching for that.

It had been a few years since our wedding in Cabo and my epic tissue paper poofs (they weren’t epic, but I felt like I needed an adjective).  Needless to say I was in dire need of a crafting project.  Good thing my friend, Lisa, was pregnant and my other friend, Brooke, was up for the shower planning task.  Brooke is equally (or dare I say, more?!) crafty (and particular) as me, this was a match made in party planning/DIY heaven.  Our husbands soon learned that they would be losing their wives to evenings and weekends of crafting and planning.

Thankfully, we had an amazing planning team – between Caresse, Karen, Brooke and myself, the shower went off without a hitch!  If you ever need to get something done, the 4 of us could make it happen.  BTW – Karen (and her husband, Simon) have a seriously amazing backyard they completely designed and built themselves.  So you’ll have to get yourself one of those if you’d like to recreate this party!

Without further adieu, the recap of the most amazingest shower ever.

We went with an orange and grey color scheme with a hint of peacock (you can call it teal).  We made fabric chandeliers to hang over the tables and a wall of paper rosettes to accent the food spread.

The chevron print was a shower original, painstakingly painted by Karen (I had the “easy” job of taping….Karen can work wonders with nail polish remover and a tiny paint brush).

The “Welcome Baby Andersen” banner had some added love by little Lana, who decided it was a little too plain (specifically the C and the O) and needed a little extra “soon-to-be-2-year-old” flare.  It’s very subtle.

We had a drink table….but let’s be real, the best part of the drink table were the striped straws with mini, orange flags.

And let’s not forget the Starbucks coffee!  Complete with creamers 🙂

The tables were decorated with flowers, toys and handmade napkins (go, Brooke!).

We decorated onesies like the pros!  No. Serious. We used a Silhouette to cutout the stencils.  It’s a little more effort than the typical fabric markers/puffy paint route, but turns out some seriously fab results.

Elaine’s Kanye glasses.

A few more finished designs. Go DAWGS!

We also had people write notes to Lisa and the Baby, we’ll call him “Bob.”  The notes are suppose to be opened each week once the baby is born.

And after writing their notes, guests dropped them into a vase.

Don’t worry!  We didn’t let the guests starve.  We served them brunch, complete with a yogurt bar and gluten free blueberry muffins that didn’t even taste gluten free!

While I seriously don’t enjoy games…..we did play 1.  But it was fun.  Caresse managed to find celebrity baby names from A to Z and it was our job to match them to their parents.  It was tough.  Sure we had a few gimmes like Suri and Coco, but do you know Sinead O’Connor’s kid’s name?  Me neither.

Lisa, an avid US weekly subscriber/reader, came in 2nd.  Much to her chagrin.

While everything in me wanted to bake something for dessert…..I just didn’t have it in me.  Too many other projects.  So instead, we did the next best thing.  Bought a Costco sheet cake.  Don’t worry, Lisa loves these things.  And guess what else?  The nice people at Costco put our chevron design on it!

Here’s what I gave them….except I colored the 2nd to last chevron grey.  Yes.  I used a ruler to make this.  A lesson to kids out there.  Stay in school and do well in math.  It’ll pay off when you’re 29 and need to design a geometric pattern for a friend’s baby shower.

The pretty, pregnant, guest of honor.

And the favors!  Because you can’t let guests leave empty handed.  Kahlua coffee scrub (for your body, not your tummy) and maple donut holes.  Yes.  Maple donut holes.  Made special for this event by the Donut Wheel.

And finally, the party planning team with the guest of honor.

And the only photo of Brooke and I together 🙂  PS….we both have nice cameras and it ended up being on an iPhone.  Go figure.  So much fun!  Congrats, Lisa!

PPS some of these photos were taken by me and some were taken by Brooke 🙂
