marriage
at San Francisco City Hall.  13 years together.  The great thing about a secret marriage and a wedding?  We get to celebrate twice!  I recommend it to everyone.

P.S.  {don’t try and figure out when we started dating…..you’ll either let out a sweet “aww” or you’ll barf a little…..depends on the person}  If I were you, I’d barf.  I’m not exactly a hopeless romantic, but I’ll probably still cry at your wedding.

All joking aside, it’s been a fun 13 years.  We seem to get along ok.

The first anniversary is paper.  So Nick printed a picture from our wedding and put it in a frame for me to take to work.  Get it?  He printed it on paper.  I blogged – digital paper.  Right?

The second anniversary is cotton.  Why do you have to wait til 60 for diamonds?  That just encourages people to get married too young.

In any case, here are the top 10 cotton-y gifts I could come up with.

10.  Sheets – when Nick and I went to Macys to spend some wedding gift cards, he had sticker shock.  He had no idea how spendy sheets could be.

9.  A cotton ball or q-tips – no one expects the obvious.

8.  Money – I looked it up and money contains cotton.  But that would be weird if you gave your spouse money.

7.  Boxers!  Mens underwear or the adorable, German dog.  Who doesn’t love a puppy?

6.  A card!  But maybe class things up a bit with some letterpress.  Hmm, guess that’s paper…..but there’s probably cotton in it too.

5.  Or maybe a nice quilt like the one over here.

4.  How about some Dave Matthews pillows?

3.  Cotton Candy?  Who doesn’t love that street treat.

2.  But Jewelry is always nice.  How about this one with a circle charm and waxed, cotton thread?

1.  Or just say “screw you” to tradition and go straight for the diamonds (I said, cotton-y, the emphasis is on the “Y” as in TiffanY).  Tiffany diamonds.  She needs a right hand ring, right?

So goes another year.  Not much has changed since we got hitched – as it should be (in my opinion).  Not sure what our plans are for this evening….I think I’m headed to the gym.  So maybe a late night dinner?  Can you tell we don’t make a big deal about these things?
