love to read books meant for middle school kids. They aren’t too deep, but have enough hidden meaning that I can feel good about myself – it’s not PURE fluff like Twilight (but pretty darn close, and don’t get me wrong, Team Jacob all the way). There’s a guy at work with a middle school aged daughter, so I get tips on books from him.
He recommended Hunger Games, and then someone at the wedding actually had it available to borrow! I jumped on it and LOVED IT!! I couldn’t put it down.
The story follows Katniss, a young girl living in a post-apocalyptic world. Each year the Capitol holds the hunger games, where one boy and one girl from each district (there are 12) are chosen to fight to the death…..you can see where this is going but I won’t spoil it for you.
It reads incredibly fast and I’ve already started the 2nd book in the trilogy. Pick it up. You’ll like it.
Other books I like (so you can get a feel for the stuff I’m into) – Harry Potter (I enjoyed all of them but liked the 2nd book the least), the Twilight books, The Giver (and the other 2 in the “trilogy”), Sookie Stackhouse books (vampire theme?), Freakonomics, Dan Brown stuff…you get the drift.
